Eastant Protects Environment with You – Marine Environmental Protection

The sea is the hometown of life. The ocean is closely related to human beings. The ocean accounts for 78.8% of the earth’s surface. It absorbs heat from the sun and releases heat to the atmosphere. This mechanism regulates the climate. Currently, 40% of the world’s people live mainly in coastal areas. As one of the three major ecosystems of the earth, the ocean contains rich biological resources and mineral energy, which is an important material basis for human survival. As a coastal country, the development of the marine economy often determines the level of social and economic development. In order to develop the economy, many coastal countries have embarked on the development path of developing oceans, using the oceans, and resources for the oceans. The marine environmental problem includes two aspects: one is marine pollution, that is, pollutants enter the ocean and exceed the self-purification capacity of the ocean; the second is marine ecological destruction, that is, under the influence of various human factors and natural factors, the marine ecological environment is destroyed. 1. Marine Pollution Most of the marine pollutants are produced on land. Coastal activities, such as dumping waste and port construction, also discharge pollutants into coastal waters. Pollutants enter the ocean, pollute the marine environment, endanger marine life, and even endanger human health. Wastes sent during industrial production are the main source of marine pollutants, concentrated in large ports and industrial cities. From 1953 to 1970, the mercury pollution incident in Minamata Bay, Kyushu, Japan, was due to the fact that the factory sent mercury-containing waste during the production of organic products. After entering the ocean, these harmful substances gradually enriched in fish and shellfish, which eventually led to more than 100 serious poisonings and successive deaths. The cooling water discharged from nuclear power plants and factories has a high water temperature and often affects marine life when flowing into the estuary or the sea. Insecticides applied to farmland flow into the river with rainwater, or they accumulate in the vicinity of the estuary with soil particles and eventually enter the ocean. Occasional offshore oil platforms and cruise accidents cause oil leakage and spillage, causing marine pollution. With the rapid development of the coastal economy, the offshore waters have been increasingly polluted, causing the environmental quality of the sea area to decline significantly, the ecological environment to deteriorate, and harmful effects on biological resources and human health. The pollution in the offshore waters has become a problem in the world, especially in China, which has a long coastline and many Gulf countries. 2. Marine Ecological Destruction In addition to marine pollution, human production activities, such as engineering construction and fisheries activities (encirclement and overfishing), as well as changes in the natural environment, such as global warming and rising sea levels, can destroy and change the marine ecosystem. The overfishing of certain marine organisms by humans has led to a decrease in the quantity and quality of marine living resources, and has also caused some species to be extinct—such as humans’ chaotic logging of mangroves and coral reefs, and also endangered the ecological balance. Some coastal projects and reclamation have lacked scientific evidence to destroy coastal environments and coastal ecosystems. At present, marine development activities still lack comprehensive and long-term planning, and the comprehensive benefits are relatively poor. image.png Suggestions for Countermeasures against Marine Pollution by Eastant: (1) Strengthen law enforcement and truly implement “law enforcement must be strict, violation of law must be investigated”, and strengthen the law enforcement supervision of government environmental protection functional departments. (2) Strengthen the anti-pollution management of ships and drilling and oil production platforms. Firstly, anti-pollution education should be carried out for the managers of ships and drilling and oil production platforms to enhance their anti-pollution awareness and improve decontamination and disaster relief skills. Operators should strictly abide by national laws and regulations. (3) The fishery administrative departments and the harbor supervisors’ anti-pollution departments should fully understand the water pollution situation within their respective jurisdictions. Understand the sources of pollution, geographical environment, hydrological status, and biological resources, and make anti-pollution plans based on the information you know. As a good government staff, once a pollution accident occurs, you can develop the most speed according to the situation you know. Good disaster reduction plan. (4) Prevent, mitigate and control pollution from marine aquaculture. China’s marine aquaculture is mainly located in shallow beaches and inner bay waters with poor water exchange capacity. The pollution of farming itself has caused local water environment deterioration. In view of this, it is necessary to establish an environmental management system and standards for marine aquaculture areas, prepare regional plans for marine aquaculture, reasonably control the density and area of sea aquaculture, establish various clean farming modes, and control the release of drugs in aquaculture. (5) Prevent and control pollution at sea. Strictly manage and control the dumping of waste into the ocean and prohibit the dumping of radioactive waste and hazardous materials into the sea. Formulate a contingency plan for oil spills and toxic chemical spills at sea, formulate a contingency plan for port environmental pollution accidents, and establish an emergency response system. (6) The state should actively guide local governments, residents, enterprises and civil organizations to actively participate in and change the marine environment to provide a good social environment for the harmonious development of China’s marine health. The ocean itself is very fragile and has limited self-purification. There are more and more recent signs that the ocean is no longer able to withstand continued pollution. We want to protect the ocean.
